At the end of 2019 in the EU, there was:
- around 782 000 m3 of radioactive waste (30% classed as very low-level waste, about 1% as highly active waste and the rest as low and intermediate level waste)
- around 54 700 tonnes of heavy-metal of spent fuel in storage.
